Andhra Pradesh government reportedly took 4.5 tmcft of water from the Pulichintala project despite the water being below minimum drawdown level (MDDL) without taking permission from Krishna River Water Management Board (KRMB). Consequently, farmers cultivating paddy on a large scale under the project site are not given water for irrigation as Telangana government put a hold on hydel power generation as the water is below MDDL.
As per the reports in the Hans India, AP drew 2 tmcft of water in July and 2.5 tmcft in August even though the water levels in the reservoir without intimating KRMB and Telangana State government. The FRL level of the project is 175 feet, but after drawing the water the MDDL has gone down below 140 feet.
On other hand, Karnataka State government is reluctant to release water to Telangana as the region is recording deficit rainfall.
The youngest state lodged a complaint with Union Ministry of Water Resources apart from other complaints against AP for illegally implementing about 10 irrigation schemes.
