Telangana government is taking steps to arrange helicopters for the convenience of pilgrims who want to visit Medaram for Sammakka-Saralakka jatara.
This was revealed by deputy chief minister Kadiyam Srihari and endowments minister A Indrakarn Reddy today. Medaram , where the largest human congregation in the world takes place, is a tribal village in the jungle of Warangal district. Reaching the venue is arduous journey. So, for those pilgrims who come from abroad and can afford it the Telangana government is organizing Helicopter ride for the first time. Telangana ministers Chandulal, Indrakaran Reddy and Kadiyam Srihari today released the poster of Medaram Jatara in Telugu and Hindi languages.
Since this is the first biennial Jatara after the formation of Telangana state, the state government is promoting it as the symbol of Telangana culture. Previous jatara was celebrated in February 2014. The works from improved amenities have begun six months back. The road leading to the village has been doubled and at the Gadde, where the Jatara proper takes place, granite flooring has been done. About 200 CC cameras are being installed for the security and monitoring the Asia’s biggest festival.
The Jatara is going to attract devotees from Maharashtra, Karnataka, Chchttisgarh besides Andhra Pradesh. The government is expecting about a crore pilgrims to visit the Jatara this year. According to Indrakaran Reddy, the government has taken up works to create amenities for pilgrims at a cost of Rs 160 crore. Huge ground with a radius of 10 km is prepared to accommodate the visitors with all the basic arrangements to facilitate the Jathara. Facilities like roads, water, sanitation, health and hygiene are being provided by the government. The jatara will be celebrated from February 17 to 20, 2016.
