An unimaginable human error leads to a huge disaster in Madhya Pradesh. Two trains derailed while crossing a railway bridge on Machak River between Khirkiya and Harda Railway stations in the state and 15 compartments belong to both trains along with engines fall down into the river on yesterday night around 11.45 PM. The sand and metal filled under the railway track was washed out as water was flowing above the track is said to be reason for this accident. But, allowing the trains on to the bridge without thoroughly inspecting the track could be the main reason for this accident.
First Kamayani Express that starts from Mumbai and going to Banaras enters the railway bridge and derailed. Ten compartments and engine of the train fall down into the river. But, the local railway staff have failed to notice it and allowed Janata Express heading to Mumbai from Jabalpur on to the same bridge within minutes. It was also derailed at the same spot. Five compartments along with engine of the train fall down into the river.
Although, the death toll can’t be estimated now, it would be very high because both trains are running to their full capacity. Especially, the general compartments always over loaded in any trains. Railway relief teams, district police, district Collector and local people rushed to the accident spot soon after knowing about the accident and engaged in rescue operations. So far, twelve passengers are reportedly died and 15 seriously injured in this mishap. Local people and rescue teams have rescued around 300 people so far and shifted them to local hospitals.
