Telugu films are having a poor show at the US box office in the first half of 2019. In the first two months, all big ticket films barring F2 – Fun and Frustration tanked heavily at the box office leaving buyers and distributors with huge losses.
NTR Kathanayakudu was the first big ticket film of the year which released in January amidst high expectations. The film started off well but failed to collect as per the trade expectations and ended as a disaster in its full run. Ram Charan’s Vinaya Vidheya Rama ended as of the biggest duds in recent as audience vehemently rejected Boyapati Srinu’s lackluster commercial potboiler.
Anil Ravipudi’s comedy caper F2 brought big cheer to trade circles as it emerged as a double blockbuster with its stupendous box office run. The film surpassed the $2 M mark in its full run. Akkineni Akhil’s highly anticipated romantic drama Mr. Majnu failed to draw the attention of overseas audience and ended as disaster as it couldn’t collect expenses despite decent reviews.
February saw the release of political dramas like Yatra and NTR Mahanayakudu. Both films couldn’t impact the overseas box office as they failed to collect minimum revenues. Trade circles have suffered hefty losses in the first two months of 2019. They are now waiting for the release of Summer films. Several big ticket and medium budget films are gearing up for release during the next three months.
