Telugu films are having a tough time at the US box office. While big ticket films are failing to mint profits, small and medium budget flicks are struggling to enter the profit zone. Varun Tej’s latest release Valmiki had managed to post just decent numbers in the first weekend. Nani’s Gang Leader had a reasonable run but couldn’t touch the magic mark by the end of its second weekend.
Valmiki started off on a ordinary note with $ 84K from its Thursday premiers. Due to decent reviews and word of mouth, the film managed to pull in adequate numbers in the weekend. On Friday and Saturday, the Harish Shankar directional collected $ 80K and 108K and surpassed the quarter million mark. By the end of Sunday, the film has crossed the $ 300K mark. As it is a mass entertainer, it can be termed as a decent run. The film need to have a good second week to earn a respectable gross.
Nani’s Gang Leader which collected $ 730K in the first weekend could only add another 200K to its tally by the end of second weekend. The below par reviews and poor feedback from audience impacted the film’s collections in the second weekend. It will end as a loss venture because of the costs involved.
