Vijay Devarakonda’s latest offering Taxiwaala, a supernatural thriller, had an average first weekend at the US box office. By the end of Sunday, the film managed to collect just over $ 400K. Trade circles opine that the divide talk from critics and audience has impacted the collections in overseas.
The film started off with $ 118K from its Friday premiers, which is very less compared to Vijay’s previous openings like Geetha Govindham ( $ 400K) and NOTA ( $ 190K), and collected $ 192K on Saturday to take the total past $ 300K mark. With Sunday’s below par run of $ 100K, Taxiwaala ended the first weekend on an average note.
Compared to Vijay’s previous films, Taxiwaala has underperformed in overseas. However, the film has entered the profit zone because the overseas rights were sold for a very low price even before Vijay’s Arjun Reddy got released. Directed by Rahul Sankrithyan, the film has Priyanka Jawalkar as the female lead.
