Confusion created with several cases of new notes of Rs 500 and Rs 2,000, issued by banks are surprisingly different in colour and design from each other are surfacing. Marked differences between new notes creating fears as that could cause counterfeiting easier, which was one of the major reason for demonetisation.
There were also complaints that there is more than a visible shadow of Mahatma Gandhi’s face on some notes and that there are alignment issues with the national emblem in some of them. Some reports have even said that there is a difference in the size of the borders of the new notes.
However, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has assured the public that the new Rs 500 and 2,000 currency notes are perfectly legal to use after complaints that there were different variants of these tenders with a difference in colour and design. RBI said the defect could be due to “rush” in printing and that people could use these notes or return them to RBI.
Meanwhile, RBI continuing exchange of old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes at its counter, though it was stopped at bank counters, It advises people that exchange of demonitised bank notes, will continue to be available at its counters up to the current limit of 2000 rupee per person as hitherto.
