The Modi-Shah duo are making non-stop efforts to somehow win over the twin Telugu states. They laid strong foundation for this in 2019 election. They made sure that the Congress and its ally TDP bite the dust in Telangana and Andhra respectively. Now, their only challenge is to polarise the Hindu voters effectively and consolidate their position to emerge as immediate alternative in both states.
The singular reason for the BJP confidence is the growing unpopularity of both TRS and YCP governments among the majority Hindu populations in the two states. This is why Union Home Minister Amit Shah is personally arriving in Hyderabad on June 6 to attend the inaugural of the BJP membership drive. Shah is determined to make considerable gains. In his new capacity, he got additional scope to reach out and win over more leaders and cadres from other parties.
KCR’s unpopular projects and decisions are another reason for BJP hopes. In Andhra, its only challenge is to weaken the TDP and capture its base. YCP’s Christian tag is soft target for BJP which is good at polarising voters along religious lines.
