Hyderabad: Congress party is still not yet decided over election field for former captain of Indian cricket team Mohammad Azharuddin. Where will Congress field Azharuddin? This question is making rounds in the Congress corridors ever since the election notification announced. A senior Congress leader said that the party will soon take decision on Ahzaruddin.
Congress has fielded former MP Anjankumar Yadav in Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency, from where Azharuddin wanted to be in fray. The grand-old party offered him Hyderabad MP seat, a strong home turf of AIMIM.
Anjankumar Yadav won from Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency in 2004 and 2009. Yadav lost to Bandaru Dattatreya of BJP in 2014 elections. Azharudding for over years has been mentioning his intention to contest from Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency. The former cricketer never shown interest on Hyderabad MP seat. At a point of time, Azhar’s name came for discussion for Chevella Lok Sabha constituency. But, sitting MP Konda Vishweshvar Reddy is a strong candidate there. So, Congress preferred Reddy to filed in Chevella constituency this time also.
However, Azharuddin few weeks ago expressed his interest on Mumbai north-central Lok Sabha constituency in case Secunderabad is not possible. That time, Priya Dutt was not keen on elections. Priya Dutt filed nomination on Congress ticket for Mumbai North-Central Lok Sabha seat.
Azharuddin won from Moradabad, UP, Lok Sabha seat in 2009. In 2014, Azhar contested in Tonk-Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, and lost it.
