Who invented the dustbin? Definitely not Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, says senior TDP leader and party’s spokesperson from Telangana Ravula Chandrasekhar Reddy. A former MP and a former MLA, Reddy is a quick-witted leader in Telugu Desam. Piercing sarcasm is his weapon. Both in parliament and in Assembly he used his talent to attack the ruling parties much to the delight of the houses. Now he has trained his guns against chief minister Chandrasekhar Rao, using dustbin as a missile.
The dustbin in question is kicking up enough political dust, in already dust-filled Hyderabad city. The reason is ensuing elections to GHMC. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections are likely to be held before January 2016. The prospect of elections has kept all political parties on their toes. And the ruling party is always positioned at vantage point. GHMC is going to be the second important elections for the TRS as its credibility of the party will be placed for a referendum. Because, TRS is not at all a force in the capital city which is the fortress for all other parties-Congress, TDP and MIM. To overcome the handicap the TRS has developed soft corner for MIM. The ruling party has used all tricks of the trade to get the elections postponed. It failed and the party had to give a written commitment to the High Court to conduct elections before end of January 2016. Later came the complaints of elimination of voters and consequent inquiry by-election commission of India. Now the TDP alleges ” bribing phase” has commenced .
Against this backdrop chief minister Rao is planning to give two dustbins green and ash color to each family in Hyderabad to collect the solid waste from the houses. Green dustbin is meant for wet waste while the ash color for dry waste, so that the waste is segregated at the source itself. The party is going to distribute lakhs of dustbins with GHMC logo on them in Hyderabad which is equal to giving Rs 200 per family.
Ravula Chandrasekhar Reddy, however, cried foul and calls the dustbins as election-gifts by GHMC. The CM launched the dustbin distribution program along with the releasing of 2500 auto trolleys to collect the segregated waste. Ravula Chandrasekhar Reddy said TRS had embarked on a mission to mobilize election funds from GHMC by dubious programs like purchasing vehicles for GHMC. ” KCR is planning to divert the people’s attention from the real issues of people in the GHMC area. He is talking as if he was the first person to introduce the dustbin to the people of Hyderabad. The distribution of green and ash color dustbins to the people is being done as if the people did not know or see the dustbin so far and as if the dustbin was KCR’s invention,” he remarked. It is a clear strategy to manipulate the voters, he accuses.
“Every house in Hyderabad has a dustbin and they have been using it for ages. Chief minister KCR instead of limiting himself to dustbins, better concentrate on the fulfilling the promises he made to transform Hyderabad into a global and smart city,” Ravula advised.
“He has already dragged TDP MLAs into his pink dustbin . Now he is planning to throw the voters out in these dustbins. It’s a conspiracy to win over the women voters with GHMC gift-dustbins. It’s tantamount to purchasing the voters,’ he said asking as to why he had not thought of distributing them in the past 17 months and how he realized that Hyderabad women needed dustbins just before the GHMC elections.
According to Reddy, the TRS was spending the GHMC money like water in capital to win the election without doing real work that transforms the city into a livable place.
Ravula cited some promises chief minister had made and forgotten. They are:
1. An elevated express way at a cost of Rs 15,000 crore.
2. Slum development and to improve the life in city to the levels of London, New York and Istanbul at a cost of R 10,000 crore
3. To make Hyderabad a signal free city at cost of Rs 20,000 crore
” What is the status of these schemes,” Ravula asked. He dared KCR to name a single scheme or project he assured before 2014 elections that had been implemented in the past 17 months. To prevent people from questioning, now, he wants to appease the women of Hyderabad with two dustbins,” he said advising the people to consign the government into dustbin to keep Hyderabad safe and smart.
