Despite facing limitation in his party’s resources, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is quick to use any opportunity to criticise the BJP governments whether at Centre or in States. He has decided not to spare even Hindu Monk Yogi Adityanath’s government in UP after the recent killing when a police constable shot Apple sales manager Vivek Tiwari dead in Lucknow.
In his own inimitable style, Mr. Kejriwal poked fun at BJP saying that the UP government could not save a man from the police excesses in the state even though he was a Hindu by religion. Delhi CMP also asked all to wait an see whether the Yogi government could order an impartial investigation into the midnight incident.
Amid growing criticism, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh also asked UP to take necessary action. Eventually, two constables were suspended as they faced charges of killing Apple manager and then gave misleading information to escape from the guilt. The manager’s associate, who was traveling with him at that time, had complained before media that the constables drove their motorcycle in front of the car to forcibly stop it. But when the manager tried to move car to road margin, one constable opened fire and escaped from the scene.
The incident pushed Yogi government to a corner following a country-wide condemnation of police firing. Kejriwal also stepped in and sought to give an impression that the fate of a Hindu will not change simply because the BJP government is there at the helm. The Delhi Chief Minister had one critic on this count though. Kalpana, widow of deceased Apple employee, took objection saying it was not correct for anybody for politicising the death of her husband.
When an incident captures imagination of entire country, will rival politicians let go of that chance easily? Kejriwal is no exception.
