It is more or less clear that TRS Rajya Sabha member D Srinivas will soon leave the ruling TRS party sooner or later. It raked up a huge debate in Political circles on why DS is leaving the party.
D Srinivas, popularly known as DS, is a very senior political leader in Telangana and has four decades of political experience. He spent most of his political career in congress party but joined TRS couple of years back. The TRS leadership give sufficient importance and made him Rajya Sabha member. However now, it seems he is all set to go back to his previous party, Congress , where he earlier held positions like President of Andhra Pradesh Congress Party (PCC) and have close links with the AICC. So what are the reasons for DS leaving ruling TRS.
Dissatisfaction despite getting RS seat
To be frank, TRS did not do any injustice to him. TRS gave him Rajya Sabha seat immediately after joining. In fact, TRS got criticism for giving him Rajya Sabha seat while neglecting many others who worked with the party in tough times and who participated in Telangana movement. But DS feels he is neglected by the party . He is particularly concerned that he and his followers are not given importance in party activities in the Nizamabad district, given the fact that daughter of CM KCR, Kavita is representing this parliamentary constituency. He is also unhappy with TRS suspending his follower Bhupati Reddy on the grounds that he is not supporting TRS MLA Bajireddy. Some say, DS planned to leave the party after Bhupathi Reddy episode.
DS statements in Caste meetings
D Srinivas is one of the top leaders in Munnuru Kapus, which is a dominant caste in Nizamabad district. Of late, DS has begun focusing on caste organization activities and he is also providing funds from his MPLADs for these caste related programmes. In one of these caste meetings, he remarked that TRS is not giving sufficient importance to Munnuru Kapu caste and if it continues he will take some strong decisions and urged the support from the caste for such decisions and caste leaders told they will support him if such situation arises. These comments reached TRS leadership and they did not go well with them.
Kavitha vs Dharmapuri Aravind
DS’s son Arvind has been active in the politics and is planning to contest from the Nizamabad Lok Sabha seat in the 2019 polls from BJP. That means he will be contesting against Kavita in next elections. TRS MP K Kavitha, who represents Nizamabad Lok Sabha segment, got alerted with this developments and recently convened a meeting with the representatives of Munnuru Kapu community. Other TRS leaders also unhappy with Aravind comments on Kavita, given the fact his father is in TRS. These leaders took his comments to Kavita time to time.
DS secretly meeting congress bigwigs
Final twist came after DS secretly met Congress bigwigs in Delhi. DS has close links with several leaders in congress including former President Pranab Mukherjee. As per reports, he went to Pranab’s residence in in Delhi and explained him the reasons for leaving the Congress that – it is because of Digvijay Singh, in-charge of the state affairs of the party and his behaviour. Pranab Mukherjee was convinced with his explanation and arranged meeting with Sonia Gandhi. The state leaders got the news that the DS is trying to join the Congress. A group of leaders have strongly opposed his arrival as he left the Congress party in the difficult times. But they didn’t open up as it is Sonia’s decision to induct him back.
All these developments indicate he is all set to join Congress soon. It is just a matter of time, it becomes official.
