CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy took serious objection to Opposition leader N Chandrababu Naidu’s statement on Reddy Congress in the Assembly. It happened in the Speaker’s felicitation speeches. Jagan was furious and recalled how Naidu made a mockery of the previous Assembly by encouraging defections of YCP MLAs into the TDP. Jagan asked why TDP was talking about history instead of its objectionable activities in the last five years.
Giving his explanation, Naidu said that it was the YSR family which was known for unparliamentary activities in AP politics. He recalled how YS Rajasekhara Reddy got elected on Reddy Congress ticket in 1978 in Pulivendula but in just four days changed loyalties to the Indira Congress.
The story of Reddy Congress came up during the days of Emergency. There was a struggle in which Kasu Brahmananda Reddy won over Indira Gandhi in the Congress internal election. Later, there was a split in which the Reddy group got original Congress party symbol of Cow and Calf while Indira group got Hand symbol. But in 1978 AP Assembly election, Congress Indira group had a resounding victory while Reddy Congress stood in third place.
