The much-awaited Chandi Yaagam by Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao is starting on 23rd December with a who’s who of India invited for the last day on 27th December, 2015. With an estimated cost of Rs.20 crores for the “Ayutha Chandi MahaaYaagam”, it has already drawn the attention of everybody including AP CM Chandrababu Naidu who was enquiring about the details of the Yaagam today when KCR flew all the way to the latter’s residence to invite him for the gala ceremony filled with rituals. Naidu confirmed he will attend on the closing day of 27th. Even PM Modi and President Mukherjee are expected to attend the function.
Just what is the reason for KCR attempting such an ambitious Yaagam like “Chandi Yaagam” which hasn’t been attempted by any sitting CM or PM in the history of India? This is interesting because there were only two instances when “Chandi Yaagam” was performed – once in 2011 by Sringeri Shankaracharaya and once in 2014 by Swami Paripoornananda. There was speculation that this was being performed by KCR to overcome the challenges that the youngest state is facing.
The real reason could be sheer altruism, according to informed sources. When the undivided state of AP got bifurcated into the two states, a renowned spiritual seer late Sadguru K Sivananda Murthy garu had advised both KCR and Naidu to take up the ambitious project of Chandi Yaagam which will bring rains and prosperity to the land of the Telugus. He used to say that this Yaagam used to be done by the Kings of the erstwhile kingdoms whenever rains failed. Hence, the Chief Minister of the land is equivalent to the king and should do this Yaagam, he advised. KCR took it very sincerely to his heart and was contemplating the same anyway – and the failed monsoon for the second consecutive year and the dried-water reservoirs of the Telangana have galvanised him to take up this tough but ambitious undertaking for the welfare of the people of Telangana.
Although this is being attempted in personal capacity, KCR is going all out to plan and undertake this Yaagam with all diligence and tenacity that should see no hiccups or anomalies in the carrying out of the pooja. Over 12 tonnes of cow ghee, dry fruits, sugar and jaggery, 1200 plus Ruthwiks (Yogis with years of penance and mantra chanting), 1500 plus Brahmins, hundreds of cattle and several Vaastu-adhering places of cooking, shelter and pooja-worship will be spread out near KCR’s own farmhouse in Medak district spread over a 300 acre land. After achieving the impossible feat of Telangana statehood, this is going to be the grandest of all undertakings ever attempted by any ruling politician – Chandi MahaYagnam – which may bring the much-needed respite in the form of rains to the state. And if it succeeds, here, buzz is that Naidu also may follow suit soon.
Wishing the Chandi Yaagam a grand success!
