Why MIM is restive in Old City ?

0

Yesterday’s MIM’s open display of unruliness should force the Telangana Rashtra Samiti realize whom it wants to embrace in Old City. As a political strategy to win over the Muslim minorities, TRS started seeing the Old City party as friend. Realizing that TRS had potential to come to power, MIM jettisoned its political patron Congress party to join hands with TRS. Chief minister K CR openly made it clear that they would take MIM help if the fell short of strength in electing their member as mayor. So far so good. In politics alliances are permitted. But, political changes unleashed by the formation of Telangana are bound to create some uneasiness in the politics the MIM Pursuing. With Congress becoming strong contender for the political space in Old City, MIM, which is already facing the BJP which is emboldened by Modi’s government at the centre, has started feeling heat. Similarly, in future TRS also has to make inroads into the Old City to accommodate the Minority leader in the party. Already, the rise of deputy chief minister Mamhood Ali created a small ripple in old city politics as his position in the government led to the creation of a power centre, though a limited one. The attack on son of deputy CM in Malakpet yesterday is an indication to the growing unrest in the MIM. Yesterday’s attack on Congress leaders and others is clearly an indication to the shape of the things to come. In case the MIM tally falls below satisfaction in GHMC, MIM is bound to take steps to retain its grip over the Old City and the TRS might find it difficult to contain its own ally. The writing on the wall is clear.
