Young turk Vijay Devarakonda is the latest sensation in Tollywood. He became a star of sorts after delivering blockbuster hits like Pelli Choopulu, Arjun Reddy and Geetha Govindham. He has effortleslessly edged past all his contemporaries in terms of craze and box office potential. If we look at his on screen performance, his chutzpah during public events and his ability to accept failures with open heart, it is of no exaggeration to say that he is a superstar in the making for sure.
No doubt, the Pelli Choopulu star has carved out a niche for himself in Tollywood. But, to take his career to the next level, Vijay D need to be prudent while selecting scripts. If we look at his career graph, on every occasion when he got a chance to ride a success wave after a big hit, he bumped into a speed breaker due to a box office dud.
After Pelli Choopulu, he bagged a failure with Dwaraka and post Arjun Reddy success, his long delayed film Ye Mantram Vesave impacted his career graph. Now, after the stupendous success of Geetha Govindham, his latest film NOTA, from what the reviews and word of mouth suggest, is heading towards becoming a flop at box office. So, once again, it is going to be a ‘hit followed by a flop’ scenario for Vijay.
Critics and general audience are very surprised on how Vijay green-lit such a lousy political subject, that too with a Tamil director, after Arjun Reddy. His next film Taxi Wala is also not carrying much expectations. So, Vijay need to be very cautious in selecting projects from here on if he wants to reach the next league by building on the strong base and following he has established till now.
