Tension prevailed on the Hyderabad Central University campus for the second day with students continuing their demand for the removal vice chancellor Appa Rao and JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar scheduled to visit the university.
To prevent the situation slipping into a major crisis, the university management closed the colleges and hostels till Monday. Large posse of police has been deployed on the campus. And university instructed the police and security personnel not to allow any outsider enter the university premises. Vice chancellor Appa Rao said Kanhaiya Kumar would not be allowed in to the university given the tense situation. Even media is also barred from the entering the campus. Students deplored the hostile attitude of university and opposed the closure of the hostels. Protesting the decision of the authorities, students today cooked food on the road leading to the campus. The students, who are demanding the removal of vice chancellor, allege that police are allowing some outsiders, who they suspect, are the members of ABVP. Police resorted to mild lathi charge to disperse the students. According to the police twenty eight students have been arrested.
On the other side, Kanhaiya, who arrived in Hyderabad this morning, reached the campus after calling on Radhika, mother of Rohit, at the nearby C R Foundation.
Kanhaiya alleged that VC Appa Rao was responsible for Rohit taking extreme step of committing suicide. He announced that the students would continue their agitation till a anti-discriminatory law -referred to as Rohit law is enacted to curb the caste discrimination on the campuses. Stating that Rohit fought for social justice, Kanhaiya said they would carry forward this fight for social justice in the universities. The Students JAC of HCU ,which is spearheading the movement also blamed vice chancellor for the present tension on the campus.
Meanwhile, Telangana JAC chairman Prof Kodandaram demanded withdrawal of entire police force from the university. Similarly, Congress Rajya Sabha MP V Hanumantha Rao also opposed the resumption of office by vice chancellor Appa Rao. Rao tried to enter the campus today, but police didn’t allow him. Expressing resentment over the deploying police on the campus, he urged the president of India to recall the vice chancellor as he was responsible for the crisis on the campus.
