Is Chandrababu Naidu planning to nominate Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, who recently joined the TDP from Congress, to Rajya Sabha. Influential Anam brothers, Ramanarayana Reddy and Vivekananda Reddy, quit Congress impressed by the work of chief minister Naidu and joined TDP. Sources said they had joined with a deal that one of the brothers would become an MLC and then would be inducted into cabinet, or would get a Rajya Sabha nomination. In order to make room for them, the sources said, Yanamala Ramakrishnudu might resign from legislative council and go to Rajya Sabha. Ramakrishndu dreamed of going to Rajya Sabha at the end Naidu’s term as chief minister before 2004. He openly expressed his desire to go to Rajya Sabha having held all positions in the state. Then Naidu had convinced him to contest the 2004 elections. But he lost. Now, he is made an MLC and taken into cabinet. The sources said if Ramakrishnudu is ready to go to the Upper House, Naidu would be too happy to send him to New Delhi and fill the vacancy with Anam Ramnarayan Reddy. But sources are not sure of the mood of Ramakrishnudu now.
Four members from Andhra Pradesh are going to retire in June 2016. They are Nirmala Seetaraman ( who was elected in the place of late N Janardhan Reddy of Congress for two years) YS Chowdary ( now MoS S&T) Jairam Ramesh (Congress) and JD Seelam ( Congress). Of the four, three will go to TDP and one to YSR Congress.
As for TDP, the question before Naidu is- who should be dropped and who should be nominated. Would Naidu retain Niramala and YS Chowdary as they are ministers in Modi council of ministers? Normally, ministers are renominated unless Naidu is terribly unhappy with the outgoing members. There is talk also that Venkaiah Naidu, who is retiring from Karnataka, is also expecting a renomination from Andhra Pradesh. If Naidu wants to retain Nirmala Seetaraman and YS Chowdary, giving a third seat to Venkaiah Naidu may not be possible. If Naidu wants to accommodate Naidu also, one TDP aspirant would lose an opportunity. Can Naidu sacrifice the party for the sake of BJP’s Venkaiah Naidu? Would Naidu drop Chowdary as he is facing some charges related to loans? Can he turn down if Venkaiah were to make a request for renomination? Or would Naidu request BJP to take back Nirmala Seetaraman to accommodate Venkaiah Naidu? What about Anam Ramanarayana?
There are the questions being talked about in TDP circles. Ultmately Naidu may spring a surprise by nominating a little known party worker in the interest of TDP.
