The prestigious Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA), constituted by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to realise his `dream project’ of making a world class capital city – Amaravati, is now rocked with women employees’ allegations of sexual harassment by a senior official.
Interestingly, Andhra Pradesh Women’s Commission chairperson Nannapaneni Rajakumari, who had rushed to the CRDA premises immediately after a vernacular Telugu daily published a report, in the name of seeking `first-hand information’ has a given clean chit to the officer facing such allegations.
She asserted that “no woman employee complained of harassment when I spoke to them. I have observed that there are glass door cabins and CCTV cameras all over the office. I understand that there is little scope for any sexual harassment,”
She makes this assertion after having an in-camera meeting with the women employees of CRDA in Vijayawada. Stating that there is no such scope in the office, she said she had observed that there are glass door cabins and CCTV cameras all over the office.
Interestingly, stating that women employees had not made any serious allegations against the behavior of the said accused official, Rajakumari admitted that five women employees were convinced that the `official’s way of talking with women was objectionable’ and he need to change his behavior.
Meanwhile, CRDA commissioner Cherukuri Sridhar announced constitution of a 10-member committee, following the directions from Rajakumari, to probe allegations of sexual harassment against a senior official. The committee will be headed by Additional Commissioner V Rama Mohana Rao.
He also stating that such incidents could not have happened in his office that have arrangements akin to multi-national company, informed that some senior women employees had already formed a committee, which would submit a report on the issue.
