Andhra Pradesh Assembly today decided to give another opportunity for RK Roja, the suspended member of opposition YSRC, to present herself before the privileges committee, in a bid to find a solution to the suspension controversy. Till then the suspension will continue, speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao announced this afternoon.
After a long debate on the recommendations of the privilege committee, which submitted its report to the House today, the House adopted three resolutions with regard to the action to be taken against YSRC members, which included giving one more chance to Roja to attend the meeting of the committee. The ruling party appears to have taken the view following the debate which focused on unrepentant attitude of Roja.
In the meantime, signal from Lotus Pond (YSRC office) indicate that Roja will attend the meeting of the privilege committee whenever it is held. Roja’s attendance is likely to pave the way for the resolution of the stalemate . The Privileges Committee said Roja had ignored four notices and recommended one year suspension. Legislative affairs minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu moved the three motions which the house accepted with voice vote.
While the house accepted the explanation given by three other members, Kotam Reddy Sridhar Reddy, Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy and Jyothula Nehuru, who responded to the notices and attended the meeting to present their version. The other resolution, related to Roja , said the suspension would continue till she presented herself before the committee and presents her version. Based on the explanation by Roja, the committee will submit another report to the House. The third resolution pertains to Kodali Venkateswar Rao( Nani) , who according to the committee, made serious comments in the House. The committee left the action to be taken against him to the wisdom of the house. The house deferred the matter.
Given the mood of the House as was evident from the debate, an apology from Roja is likely to put an end to the whole controversy. Because, the ruling party members, who participated in the debate, highlighted the unrepentant attitude of the suspended member and refusal to attend the meeting of the committee. So, if Roja tenders an apology for what had happened or the committee satisfies itself with the explanation of Roja, the issue would get resolved without any further complication.
