June 2nd is the Telangana formation day. It is five years since Telangana formed as 29th state of the country. Even though there were movements since 1969, it is the decade long battle of KCR after forming TRS that made the dream of Telangana people a reality. There were 100s of promises during Telangana movement and people aspired for many things to be realized after the formation of the state. Now after 5 years of the formation of Telangana, how near or how far is Telangana state in realizing those dreams of people.<\/p>\n
What went fine in last 5 years?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Infrastructure:<\/strong><\/p>\n Infrastructure of the state and especially of its capital Hyderabad went through a major change in last 5 years. The problem of power-cuts that was a common phenomenon during united AP is almost solved now. The new flyovers in the city changed the landscape of Hyderabad. Metro project that was initiated during united AP went live in last 5 years and became an integral part of the life of a Hyderabadi. <\/p>\n Water and agriculture:<\/strong><\/p>\n Another major reason for Telangana movement was water. Telangana made good progress in this area in last 5 years. With the success of Kaleswaram project, Mission Kakateeya ( a programme for restoring all the minor irrigation tanks and lakes in Telangana), mission Bhageeratha (a project for safe drinking water for every village and city household in Telangana State) Telangana is gradually transforming from drought prone state to state with good irrigation facilities. Raithu Bandhu scheme that was started during election year is expected to improve the face of agriculture in Telangana in the long run.<\/p>\n TS topped in several indices:<\/strong><\/p>\n Telangana state topped in several indices in last 5 years. Infant mortality rate came down drastically. In education also, 10th pass percentage improved in the state. GSDP growth of the state at times surpassed national GDP growth rate. Telangana got good rankings in several indices like ease of doing business and ease of living etc.<\/p>\n What did not go fine?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Jobs:<\/strong><\/p>\n This is yet another reason for Telangana movement. However, unlike in the fields of infrastructure and water, Telangana government did not live up to the expectations of people. Unemployed youth, a key force during Telangana movement, was in disappointment after the formation of the state especially given the slogans of \u201cOne lakh jobs\u201d during the movement.<\/p>\n Criticism on CM\u2019s style of functioning:<\/strong><\/p>\n There is lot of criticism on KCR\u2019s authoritarian style of functioning. Many people, including OU JAC that played key role in movement, alleged that several voices are being suppressed in the state of Telangana. Some went to the extent of saying, this is not the \u2018Bangaru Telangana\u2019 they wished for. Another criticism is on TS government\u2019s media handling. There have been various allegations that KCR is helping his own media houses by giving disproportionate amount of ads to his own media houses.<\/p>\n Other criticism:<\/strong><\/p>\n Some promises that are not met by TS government, for e.g. 2 BHK houses, causing sort of resentment among people. Recent Intermediate board fiasco also frustrated thousands of parents and students. More than the mistake by the board, the way government handled the issue and the way it tried to suppress the voices against government made people angry. During this intermediate issue, some of the parents as well as students, for the first time after the formation of the Telangana state, praised the erstwhile united AP and told things were much better then.<\/p>\n Overall:<\/strong><\/p>\n Overall, 5 Years of Telangana progressed in many aspects.
