Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya, for the first time in recent times, seen using harsh towards K Chandrashekhar Rao\u2019s government and find fault in the land procurement process, adopted by the State government for construction of irrigation projects.<\/p>\n
If projects are constructed without the participation of local people, he warned that they will be helpful only for contractors to fill their pockets, more than people. He makes these accusations at the launch of the book \u201cGodavari jalala Sampurna Viniyogam- Jatheeya Mariyu Telangana Drukpadhalu\u201d (Full utilization of Godavari Waters \u2013 National and Telangana perspectives) in Hyderabad.<\/p>\n
The book was written by Sriram Vedire, an adviser to Union Ministry of Water Resources, suggested alternative methods to effectively utilise the Godavari water by constructing projects across the river.<\/p>\n
The minister said that irrigation projects should be aimed at providing irrigation facilities to farmers, but not to fill up pockets of contractors. He said that the State government should realise its ambitious `Bangaru Telangana\u2019 (Golden Telangana) is possible only by proper utilisation of Godavari waters.<\/p>\n
Dattatreya asked the Chief Minister to study and explore possibilities of providing irrigation facilities to every corner of the state by evolving a comprehensive plan for optimum utilisation of Godavari waters by spending about Rs 80,000 crore. He suggested the Chief Minister to convene an all-party meeting to evolve a strategy in this direction.<\/p>\n
Dattatreya asked the State government to expedite the process of realignment of proposed irrigation projects in the State to utilise Godavari water.<\/p>\n
BJP Legislative Party leader G Kishan Reddy asked the State government to complete the construction of irrigation projects across Godavari and Krishna Rivers in the State. He felt that would help to arrest the spate of suicides of farmers in the State.<\/p>\n
The author of the book Sriram Vedire felt that the height of the proposed barrage for Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project at Medigadda should be at least 115 metres against the proposed 100 metres.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
