Xiaomi has partnered with Foxconn to set up its second manufacturing unit in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh. The company started its first unit in 2015 in India. This facility is exclusive to Xiaomi and no other Foxconn mobile will be manufactured. The unit started functioning two weeks ago.
Giving further details about the unit, Xiaomi India Head Manu Jain said “While I cannot disclose the exact capacity, I can tell you that we will be able to manufacture one phone per second whenever the lines are running. The two factories combined will provide employment to about 5,000 people, 90 per cent of which are women”.
The Chinese mobile handset maker has built a strong presence in the country, and was facing supply constraints because of which it couldn’t meet the demand. This new plant will help meet 95 percent of its demand in India.
The company which wanted to expand its production since last year, has launched its new device Redmi 4A. The Chinese firm has partnered with Big C Mobiles, Sangeetha Mobiles, Poorvika Mobiles in South India to make the Redmi Note 4 available. It is soon going to sell in mom and pop shops in North India. Xiaomi’s success is driven by its budget phones like the Redmi Note 3, Redmi 3S Prime series.
