Karnataka Chief Minister Yediyurappa won the confidence vote in the Assembly today. With this, the curtains came down on the prolonged constitutional crisis in the southern state. About 106 MLAs supported the BJP government which is two votes more than the 104 simple majority. The disqualification of 17 MLAs made it a smooth affair for the BJP. But the rebel MLAs lost the chance to become ministers in future.
Speaking in the Assembly, Yediyurappa promised to the people of Karnataka that his rule would consider and solve their problems with priority. He said that special efforts would be made to solve the problems of farmers. His regime got support of one independent MLA.
The JDS-Congress leaders asked the BJP government to provide clean governance to the people instead of trying to please the rebel MLAs. Ex CM Siddaramaiah said that there’s no guarantee for how long the Yediyurappa regime will last.
