The Swachha Andhra Corporation, set up by the previous YS Jagan mohan Reddy YSRCP government to ensure cleanliness in the state, has been embroiled in a massive corruption scandal. The corporation, which was meant to create wealth from waste, has instead become a hub for corrupt activities. The scam, which involves the pumping off of Rs 200 crore, has been exposed, and the government has ordered a vigilance inquiry.
How the Scam Unfolded
The scam involved the awarding of contracts to two companies, which were favored by YSRCP leaders, despite not meeting the eligibility criteria. The companies, which were supposed to provide compactors and other equipment, supplied substandard materials and cheated the corporation of crores of rupees. The contracts were awarded through a reverse tendering process, where the companies were given the contract without following the proper procedures.
Cheap quality Goods
The companies, which were awarded the contracts, supplied nasirakam (substandard) goods, including iron bins, tricycles, and HDPE bins. The bins were not of the required quality, and the companies cheated the corporation of crores of rupees. The vigilance inquiry has revealed that the companies did not have the necessary bank guarantees or security deposits to execute the contracts.
Irregularities
The vigilance inquiry has revealed several irregularities in the awarding of contracts, including the use of forged bank guarantee certificates. The inquiry has also found that the companies did not have the necessary expertise or experience to execute the contracts. The companies were awarded contracts worth Rs 570 crore, but they did not have the necessary financial resources to complete the projects.
Chandrababu Orders Vigilance Inquiry
The AP Chief Minister has ordered a vigilance inquiry into the scam, and the inquiry has revealed that several YSRCP leaders were involved in the scam. The inquiry has also found that the companies did not have the necessary security deposits or bank guarantees to execute the contracts.
