The five MPs from the YSR Congress who have resigned to Lok Sabha are scheduled to meet Lok Sabha Speaker on June 6 at 11 am to press for acceptance of their resignations. The MPs have resigned in protest against the denial of special category status to the State. They held protest all through the budget session and issued notices of no confidence motion against the government. However, the notices were not taken up and their protests were not respected.
On the last day of the budget session on April 6, the MPs submitted their resignations in the speaker format. However, the Speaker did not accept them till date. The speaker had met the MPs on May 29 where they insisted on accepting their resignations. However, the speaker had posted the case to June 6, requesting them to reconsider their decision.
The MPs are determined on going ahead with their resignations and seeking fresh mandate, exclusively on the special category status demand. “We are firm on our decision and there is no change. We will ask the Speaker to accept our resignations,” said MPs Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy and Y V Subba Reddy.
YSR Congress chief Jaganmohan Reddy had directed the MPs to get their resignations approved on the same day when they meet the Lok Sabha speaker for the second time on June 6. He had taken the risk of going for the by-polls in all the five Lok Sabha constituencies, ahead of the 2019 general elections. The five MPs, Rajamohan Reddy, Subba Reddy, Avinash Reddy, Varaprasada Rao and Mithun Reddy, are the staunch loyalists of Jaganmohan Reddy and have been with him while three other MPs have deserted the party. It was S P Y Reddy who deserted Jaganmohan Reddy immediately after his election. He was closely followed by another MP Butta Renuka and Kothapalli Geetha. While Kothapalli Geetha remains independent, the other two, SPY Reddy and Renuka, are sailing with the ruling Telugu Desam Party.
