YSR Congress lost the Council election in Prakasam district before it is fought. Lost in the race of one-upmanship and sure of losing the election, the party announced much before the polling that it isboycotting the election. The polling is scheduled on July 3. All municipal councilors, MPTC and ZPTC members in districts are voters in the election.
As it could not win back the MPTC and ZPTC member who were allegedly held hostage by Telugu Desam Party, YSR Congress announced that it was withdrawing from the contest of the election to Prakasan local bodies constituency of state Legislative Council. YSRC is facing tough competition from TDP candidate Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy, a former Congress MP. YSR Congress alleged that TDP had was holding about 35 MPTC and ZPTC members hostage. While announcing the decision to withdraw from the contest, party leader MP Subbareddy said their attempts to get back their members from TDP captive could not yield results. “We have represented to the Election Commission and governor of the state about abuse of official machinery by the ruling party. The party is offering money to members of YSRC to cross vote to TDP candidate,” Reddy told media.
