The opposition YSRC has decided to file a contempt petition against Andhra Pradesh assembly for not honoring the High Court verdict staying the suspension of party MLA R K Roja for one year.
This was revealed by opposition leader and YSRC President Jaganmohan Reddy today.
Addressing media after the protest march to Raj Bhavan in Hyderabad on Friday, Jagan expressed strong resentment against the Speaker’s decision not to allow Roja enter the House and instructing the Assembly marshals to stop her at the gate itself. Jagan said it was a clear case of violation and dishonoring of the High Court.
Jagan squarely blamed chief minister Chandrababu Naidu and speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao for the non-implementation of the HC orders by the Assembly.
He said the party MLAs had argued with the marshals since 8.50 and they were stubborn not to allow Roja. ” We have recorded our arguments with Marshals. We showed High Court order to the marshals. But they did not produce any written order that authorizes them to stop Roja. We have submitted report on the happenings in the Assembly premises to the High Court through our lawyers and the Court was kind enough to take cognizance of the incidents that happened at Assembly,” Jagan said.
” I doubt if we are living in Democracy . Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu took the Assembly under his control and the speaker Kodela is working at the command of the chief minister. Speaker is going against the rules, toeing the line of Telugu Desam party. The rule 340 (2), which they have cited for the suspension of Roja, doesn’t allow suspension not more than the remaining period of the House. The Assembly decision is against it’s own rule but the CM and the Speaker behave as if they are above the constitution and the Courts,” Jagan said. The opposition leader alleged that the CM and the speaker had colluded against the opposition party in the Assembly.
Stating the disallowing of Roja to enter the Assembly was the height of arrogance of power , Jagan said this would be brought to the notice of the Court. ” Roja’s case was taken up by High Court at the directive from the Supreme Court of India. The High Court, after examining the case, passed the order. Now, the Assembly chose to dishonor the order,” he said and added the on Monday the party’s lawyers would file the contempt petition.

The meeting also decided to take Roja to the Assembly along with them to them. If the marshals stop her tomorrow also, then we will decision the next course of action, said party MLA Uppuleti Kalpana.
