The Opposition YSR Congress, which lost seven MLAs is seriously thinking of a strategy to corner the defector MLAs and get them disqualified. The party is of the opinion that a by-election after the disqualification would benefit it as the ruling party, the YSRC thinks, has become unpopular among various sections of society.
The party is confident of getting its nominees reelected from the constituencies of defectors. But hurdle is getting them disqualified as early as possible.
Winning a byelection for TDP would be an uphill task for Naidu, is the firm belief among the YSRC MLAs. It has prepared the list of failures of Naidu from employment creation to amassing of capital lands by the TDP MLAs and hopeful of convincing the people on the need to defeat the TDP. It can also call the bypoll as referendum on the capital construction and Naidu’s governance, a party sources claim.
The party wants to try both legislative and legal options to get the defector MLAs disqualified soon. To create the cause of action, the YSRC is going to table no-confidence motion against the Chandrababu Naidu’s government in the budget session. The no-confidence motion gets precedence over the other business before the Assembly and may come up for discussion even before the tabling of the finance bill.
Party MLA Visweswar Reddy told telugu360.com that serving of no-confidence motion could not be ruled out in the session given the gravity of the charges against the Telugu Desam ministers in the purchase of lands in the capital region. The motion will make the land scam know to the entire nation, he says.
The No-confidence motion against the government is necessary to initiate action against the YSRC MLAs who crossed over to TDP in the presence of chief minister Naidu in the past 15 days.
During the no-confidence motion the party would issue whip for all the MLAs. Disqualification provisions can be invoked if the MLAs violate the whip, even if the motion is defeated.
The budget session of the Assembly is commencing from Saturday and in all probability the notice is expected to be served on the first day itself. The party can also demand that the motion be taken up immediately, before the presentation of the budget. The budget is scheduled to be tabled on March 10.
YSRCP has 67 MLAs in the House of 175. It has come down to 60 following the defections by 7 MLAs.
It is true, all the MLAs, including the defectors have to abide by the whip issued by the party for the no-confidence motion and violators are liable to be disqualified, but there is a way out for the MLAs who joined the ruling party.
They may feign ill health and get themselves admitted to a hospital. Or the TDP may ask them to obey the whip and vote for motion as the motion is bound to be defeated in the House and escape the action by the YSRC.
